INTRODUCING OUR STOP-OVER TOURS

Our Stop-Over Tours offer you the opportunity to discover Iceland as you journey between North America and Europe or between Europe and North America. A Stop-Over Tour is very well worth considering as an inclusion in your broader travel itinerary.

As well as breaking your journey, such a tour allows you to gain a little insight into this most wonderful “nature land”. Volcanic landscapes, icecaps and glaciers, coastal sceneries, waterfalls and rivers and will all be encountered (in addition to farmscapes, colourful little townships and traditional churches). But beware, quite possibly, this “Icelandic Taster Tour” will tempt you back to the country in future years; you can never tire of this awesome land!

As a private tour, all of our Stop Over Tours, whilst well planned, tried and tested, of course allow for your own personal scenic/activity preferences to be included, where possible. All such finely detailed itinerary planning can be discussed with you as we tailor make your particular Stop Over Tour.

We presently offer two Stop-Over Tours, a 3 Day and a 5 Day option. However, we can readily format a tour of any duration appropriate to your needs.

Day 1

You will be picked up after your international flight at Keflavík Airport by a private taxi that takes you to Reykjavík. You will enjoy the evening in Reykjavík where we will book a restaurant for you in accordance with your food preferences (or, if you prefer, you can just walk around in Reykjavík and dine wherever you wish).

Day 2

Header-1The day is spent by visiting the Unesco World Heritage Site of Þingvellir, the most historically significant site in all of Iceland, hosting the oldest democratic Parliament in the world.

The Þingvellir area is filled with evidence of tectonic activity, located on the borders of the North American and European plates, that are still slowly separating. From Þingvellir we continue to other parts of the Golden Circle route. Geysir, the now dormant parent of all geysers, is visited, along with the still active Strokkur geyser. Then it’s on to Gullfoss, the “Golden waterfall”. On the way we add stops to sample the local cuisines and even can take an outdoor bath in one of the local hot springs.

Tonight’s accommodation is at one of our specially selected, high quality hotels. Located in a small town or in the countryside. the delights of Iceland are all around you.

Day 3

The south coast region of Iceland abounds in black sand beaches, beautiful waterfalls, towering icecaps and impressive glaciers. We keep the plan of the day flexible and our local Guides adjust the itinerary to the weather conditions and, of course, to your preferences.

Among the most popular places to stop by at are:-

  • the powerful waterfall Skógafoss, one of the trademarks of the South;
  • the Eyjafjallajökull Visitor Centre in Þorvaldseyri to learn about the 2010 eruption;
  • the “now connected” island Dyrholaey with its cliffed coastal features;
  • the black polished pebble beach at Reynisfjara (including excellent columnar basalt cliffs);
  • the beautiful and photogenic little coastal village of Vík.

We also add in some secret places on the way, among them the oldest swimming pool in Iceland, Seljavallalaug, and the airplane wreck on Skógasandur. Along this route, there are pleasant restaurants and cafés that offer a wide variety of local cuisine.

Accommodation as last night.

Day 4

After a good night sleep and a tasty and filling  breakfast, we pick you up at your hotel and take you out on our Surprise Tour. We have created a “flexible” tour depending on the weather, ground conditions and visibility to make sure that you get the most out of the day. We always think of our customers’ preferred experiences and we put them to the front of our safe and secure itinerary planning. Some of the destinations we might travel to are:-

  • Þórsmörk;
  • Landmannalaugar;
  • Eyjafjallajökull (the one that erupted in 2010);
  • In and around the Hekla region.

But, on the day, it is nature who decides our destination; no matter where we travel, however, it is always awesome.

Accommodation as last night.

Day 5

The final day is a mixture of sightseeing and relaxation. We drive to the South West and the Reykjanes Peninsula with its tectonic plates, much evidence of volcanic activity and high geothermal areas. We visit the hot springs, the bird cliffs and the Bridge Between the Continents (where you actually walk on a bridge between North America and Europe plates).

After the sightseeing you will then enjoy some time in the Blue Lagoon before heading back to the airport for your onward flight.
