Day 3

Glacier lagoon and waterfalls

We visit Skaftafell in the Vatnajökull National Park, surrounded by glaciers, native dwarf birch forest and black beaches. In Skaftafell we hike to the waterfall Svartifoss that takes its name “Black waterfall” from the beautifully formed hexagonal basalt stones over which it tumbles.

From Skaftafell we pass the highest peak in Iceland, Hvannadalshnjúkur, on our way to the Jökulsárlón, the glacial lagoon located in front of an outlet glacier of Vatnajökull, the biggest icecap in Iceland (and the third largest in the world) . The lagoon is filled with beautiful icebergs of different sizes and forms floating around in the clear blue water.

NOTE: There is also the option to add an ice cave tour to this day.

Day 4

Golden Circle and airport transfer

The last day is spent visiting the Unesco World Heritage Site of Þingvellir, the most historical significant site in all of Iceland, being the site of the oldest Parliament in the world.

This area is also filled with tectonic activity, located on the borders of the North American and Eurasian plates, that started to separate more than 100 million years ago (and still continue to separate).

From Þingvellir we continue to other parts of the Golden Circle route. Geysir (the now dormant father of all Geysirs) and the still active Strokkur geysir and Gullfoss, the “Golden waterfall.

End the day at the airport or at an accommodation.
