Experience unique emotions emanating from the atmosphere and energy of nature by riding into the bright night on an Icelandic horse. Ride in the meadows where the birds with their chicks are running around and where late night dew can decorate the vegetation, and be surrounded by undisturbed nature.
Travelling from our farm, along the valley of the beautiful and quiet river Ranga, with open views towards the volcano Hekla, the icecaps and glaciers of Tindfjallajökul, Myrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull and mountains such as Búrfell and Thrihirningur, the rides starts around 22 o‘clock. At this time the day’s light is gently fading, shadows lengthen and nature’s colours become enriched. We ride for about two to three hours when, in mid summer, the midnight sun is still shining. On arrival back to the farm, welcoming mugs of delicious hot chocolate (topped with cream, of course!) and traditional “bakkelsi” await.
It is possible to further enhance this tour’s experiences by also staying overnight at our farm and sleeping in a newly made, traditional, Icelandic turf guesthouse (in sleeping bag accommodation). This allows you to further deepen your experience of being “away from it all” and enables you to imagine life in the past when horses and living off the land so dominated peoples’ lives and their survival. Please just let us know if you are interested in this optional extra.
