After pick-up, we’ll head straight toward the glaciers. The journey begins on the renowned Route 1, but before long, we’ll veer off onto a seemingly untouched wilderness. Along the way, we’ll be surrounded by captivating glaciers and majestic mountains. The super jeep handles the rugged terrain with ease, yet the drive remains thrilling and full of adventure.
Mýrdalsjökull is one of Iceland’s most renowned glaciers, home to the captivating Kötlujökull glacier. This glacier, named after the mighty Katla volcano beneath it, slowly carves its way down the mountainside, forming some of Iceland’s most extraordinary natural ice caves. On this thrilling super jeep tour, you’ll explore this breathtaking phenomenon firsthand—and you’ll understand its allure the moment you step inside.
The tour takes you to the base of Kötlujökull glacier, where the surreal landscape unfolds before your eyes. After gearing up with crampons and helmets, we’ll take a short walk to the ice cave entrance. Depending on conditions, you may need to climb a few ladder steps to reach the opening, but the climb is easy and suitable for anyone with average fitness. It may seem adventurous, but it’s not physically demanding!
As you approach the cave, you’ll notice stunning layers of ice and volcanic ash creating striking patterns in the glacier. Your guide will share fascinating insights into the glacier’s history, the ice cave, and the surrounding area, making the experience both educational and thrilling.
