Family trips in Iceland
We are a small family-owned company and we love organising family trips to Iceland. We offer personalised service. Tell us about your family and your interests and we will use our knowledge to design a memorable trip that suits your family. A trip that will include the must-see popular sights and also off-the beaten path trips where you will experience authentic and raw Iceland – far away from other tourists.
We are located in a small town of Hvolsvöllur in south Iceland. Most of us grew up here or in surrounding farms. We have a strong passion for what we do. We love showing our guests around our amazing country. Our location is at the very heart of south Iceland. Þórsmörk, Landmannalaugar, Fjallabak, Vík, Reynisfjara, Dyrhólaey, Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss are all within a short distance from us.

Travelling with children in Iceland
Travelling with children in Iceland is safe. Boasting a relatively low-crime rate, Iceland even topped the Global Peace Index (GPI) report ten consecutive years in a row. Iceland is one of the most family-friendly places to visit.
No extra fee
When we book tours, accommodation or activities with another company you don’t pay an extra “middle man” fee. You pay the same price as if you would book yourself. Our commission is included in that price. That’s the tradition in Iceland.
As mentioned above we can arrange your entire vacation, including accommodation. Midgard Base Camp is our very own accommodation and restaurant. It’s a great place for families, kids love staying with us. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. We offer both private rooms and dorms.
We have many other great options on the area, ranging from budget to luxury 4 star hotels.
What other families say about Midgard Adventure?
Here are a few reviews from families that we received last year:
“I can’t recommend Midgard highly enough. They were incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, flexible, accommodating and charming. Our daughter has celiac disease and Midgard was excellent at making sure she stayed safe. We made a bunch of changes on the fly and Midgard adjusted schedules, rearranged itineraries and never missed a beat. Their basecamp facility is sensational – I highly recommend staying there, or at least having dinner and a drink there. Midgard has a strong company culture that allows them to attract terrific people. Hooray for Midgard!”

“An amazing, memorable trip! We wanted an active adventure that entire family of 11 people would be enjoy. Not an easy request since we were a variety of ages and physical condition. The Midgard Adventure team delivered and then some! They arranged all activities, tours and transfers for our six day trip. We covered a lot of territory–several challenging hikes (including some in the rain which only added to the adventure); snorkeling and the Golden Circle, Super Jeep tours, ice climbing and more. Our guides, Begga, Stefnir and Bjarni were all very competent and knowledgeable about their country. They even entertained us with music and games on occasion. The “picnic lunches” were a surprise and all delicious fun. I would highly recommend this company. Thanks to Bjorg and Guodmunda for planning and advice. Also this company is opening a hotel/hostel very soon–Midgard Base Camp–and it promises to be extraordinary. I am so grateful for the memories Midgard helped my family create. Some of my grandchildren (all adults) are already thinking of return trips.”

The Most Authentic Way To Experience Iceland!
“When you adventure with the Midgard crew, you truly feel as though you are a part of their family. I’ve had the pleasure of partnering with them the past couple of years to bring several groups as well as my family to visit Iceland. What stands out about them are the following things:
1) Whether you are on a private or open tour, they are so incredibly accommodating and adept at “reading the crowd”. Itineraries, activities, pace and recommendations are all adjusted and modified to suit the guests needs. You truly feel the benefits of an authentic and custom tour. As a travel planner, this is so important when it comes to program development and choosing a supplier/partner.
2) They know the area inside and out. Weather changes/last-minute detour or request? Not a problem. They’ve always got an alternative option mapped out. When you’re visiting a country with places as remote as Iceland this is key!
3) While they can cover the popular stops with you, their real expertise lies in their ability to truly go off-the-beaten path. Hidden waterfalls, secret caves, remote river crossings — true insider access.
4) Their entire crew is INCREDIBLE! From start to finish (booking to the actual tour) there’s never a point where you are not taken care of. Bjorg, Markus, Harpa, Tanya, Anna, Atti, Hildur, Siggi, Jon, Oli, Sveinn, Magnus — thank you for all you do for us!
Looking forward to coming back this August with another group and many more to come!”
