Horse Riding Tour in South Iceland

This horse riding tour is for the experienced riders seeking an adventure. We try out the horses in the riding hall before riding out into the Icelandic landscape for a ride which focuses on experiencing the unique qualities of the Icelandic horse.

We ride mostly flat and straight tracks, allowing us to tölt at different speeds as well as test the horses in galop. With majestic mountains ahead and expansive fields visible through the ears of our horses, the scenery is breathtaking.

The ride is designed for riders, who wish to ride plenty of tölt which is why the tour is only for those with experience. If you enjoy open spaces, panoramic views, well-maintained riding paths, and a bit of speed, this adventure is perfect for you.

Depending on the group, we typically ride for approximately 2 hours, pausing briefly to stretch our legs and give the horses a rest. Upon our return, you’re invited to explore the stable facilities and you will be treated to a hot beverage and traditional Icelandic pastry, known as kleinur, in our charming stable café.

Skill level:

This tour is for the experienced and adventurous riders. Here are the requirements:

• You need to be an experienced rider
• You need to be able to and comfortable with managing the horse in different gaits and all speeds
• You need to be healthy and fit for a 2 hour ride
• You need to be able to mount and dismount on your own

When should I show up?

Please be at Skeiðvellir 10 minutes before the booked departure time. Note that if you arrive later than departure time, the tour might have already left.
