The Ice Cave Tour stands out as the most popular option, beginning with a meeting at Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. From there, participants will journey in a modified 4×4 vehicle, navigating a rugged road into a glacial valley—an adventure in itself. A short hike of about 15 minutes leads to the cave entrance, with most of the walk taking place on the glacier. This winter, the featured cave is the Blue Diamond ice cave, known for its breathtaking blue ice formations. The total tour duration is approximately 2 to 3 hours.

As ice cave conditions can change throughout the winter, the specific cave visited may vary later in the season.

The super jeep ride to the cave offers a thrilling experience through stunning landscapes shaped by glaciers over time. This half-day, 3-hour tour is perfect for short winter days or for those mindful of Iceland’s unpredictable weather. Once inside the cave, there’s time to take in the vivid blue hues, enjoy the scenery, and capture photos.

Ice caves are dynamic and ever-changing, melting and reforming each summer. When scouting for caves, factors like size, color, beauty, and overall experience are carefully considered.

It’s important to note that the ice cave is a shared experience with other groups. Prepare for the Icelandic winter by dressing warmly in waterproof outdoor clothing, including a hat and gloves.

This tour does not involve hiking on the glacier but does include a walk of approximately 25-30 minutes on uneven terrain from the parking spot. The total walking distance is around 4 km round trip, so keep this in mind when booking.

Meeting point: Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, near the black truck marked with the Local Guide logo.
