The Ice Cave Discovery offers a full-day adventure in winter conditions and is a favorite among the guides. This tour involves hiking across the glacier to reach remote locations and stunning natural features, all while maintaining small group sizes (up to 9 participants).
The experience includes a thrilling super jeep ride through the glacier valley, crossing bridges over glacial streams, and visiting unique ice caves. The hiking portion on the glacier lasts about 1.5 to 2 hours in total. This tour typically features one ice cave along with other captivating glacier formations.
Starting at Jökulsárlón, the journey kicks off in a modified super jeep, taking participants to the glacier’s base. From there, the hike traverses the glacial tongue, showcasing fascinating features and ice caves. There’s ample time to explore, take photographs, and enjoy a brief lunch break.
Ice caves are dynamic, constantly evolving, and typically range from 30 to 100 meters in length. During the scouting process, emphasis is placed not only on the cave’s size but also on its colors and the overall visitor experience. It’s important to remember that the ice cave is a shared space with other groups.
