Insurance

Safety is of paramount importance to Midgard Adventure and we pride ourselves in our attention to detail regarding safety on all our tours and of the knowledge, experience and expertise of our guides and staff members. We do however strongly advise that all passengers have in place their own adequate travel insurance against issues such as illness, injury, loss or damage to personal belongings, and not being able to travel on the confirmed departure date.

Location and directions

Midgard Adventure is located in south Iceland in a small town called Hvolsvöllur. Midgard is only a two hour drive from Keflavík International Airport and just over an hour from the capital city of Reykjavík. Click here for our location on google maps. Midgard is very easily reached by driving just a few metres off the “1” ring road (so no need for any rough gravel track driving!).

Click here to see the way from Reykjavík to Midgard Adventure. You basically follow Suðurlandsvegur (route 1) all the way to Hvolsvöllur. When you enter Hvolsvöllur you continue driving the main road (route 1), you pass the gas station and continue until you see Midgard Adventure sign on your left side. Drive Duftþaksbraut all the way to the end and you will see our location.

Payment

No, we do not charge any extra fees or fuel surcharges. The listed price is the price you pay. Including tax.

We understand that you may not have a printer handy when you’re traveling so it is not necessary to have a printed copy. However, we require that you show ID matching your reservation.

Preparation

It is recommended to have a sturdy pair of broken-in trail shoes, boots, or sneakers (depending on the tour). It is preferable to dress in layers and wear clothing that will wick away perspiration and keep you dry and comfortable. We recommend that you take a small backpack with you where you can keep extra clothes. As the weather is very unpredictable we advice people to check the weather forecast the evening before.

Here is a list that is good to have in mind when packing for an active vacation in Iceland:

  • Hiking Boots – Preferably of waterproof material (Gore-Tex or alternative)
  • Long sleeve shirt (thermal underwear) – Wool or synthetic
  • Light wool sweater or fleece (2nd layer)
  • Trousers (2nd layer) – Strong and light material that dries quickly. Wind resistant and water repelling preferable.
  • Rain Jacket or an Anorak with hood – Waterproof and breathable material. Gore-Tex or equivalents are preferable.
  • Rain trousers – Waterproof and breathable material
  • Liner Gloves – Wool or synthetic (polypropylene / polyester)
  • Socks – Wool or synthetic. One or two pairs for thermal and blister prevention
  • Hat or beanie – Wool or synthetic

We do suggest you bring appropriate clothing to fit the season and a day pack to carry lunch, extra snacks and water.

Please note: The basic price of our tours does not include lunch. However you can add lunchboxes in the booking process. If you want to bring your own lunch there is a supermarket at Hvölsvöllur (5 minutes walking distance from Midgard Base Camp).

Restaurants in the area

Midgard Base Camp restaurant is of course our first choice. We are not at all biased! 😉  Midgard Base Camp is a place to stop-by, a place to have a chat, to relax, to eat and to have a drink. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is very friendly!

Midgard chefs ensure that all ingredients and dishes are made to be energy giving, providing you with both a nutritious feast as well as a visual feast. Where possible, ingredients are locally sourced, with the emphasis on them being organic and their source’s sustainable. Midgard’s café, bar and restaurant are open daily with extensive hours. We cater for chirpy early birds as well as for prowling night owls. Midgard serves breakfast, snacks, lunches and evening meals.

Weather

We do hike in the rain, snow, wind and any other weather conditions that nature decides to throw at us. After all, we’re going on adventures! If the weather is unsafe for any reason, the trip will be changed or postponed. You will be notified the week of your trip if there are changes due to weather.
