Helicopter Tour Over Iceland’s Newest Volcanic Landscapes
See Iceland’s youngest landscapes from above on a 60-minute helicopter tour from Reykjavík. This flight takes you out over the Reykjanes Peninsula, where recent eruptions have reshaped the land with fresh lava fields, craters, and steaming geothermal terrain.
When conditions allow, the experience includes a scenic landing near the lava field, giving you the chance to step out into a landscape that still feels raw, new, and very much alive. That quiet moment on the ground adds something special, letting you take in the scale, texture, and energy of this ever-changing part of Iceland. As always, the landing depends fully on safety and current volcanic conditions.
What to expect
After take-off from Reykjavík, your pilot will follow the best route based on weather, visibility, and current conditions. From there, the journey heads towards Reykjanes, where volcanic activity in recent years has dramatically changed the shape of the peninsula.
From the air, you may see wide lava fields stretching across the land, dark craters, rugged eruption sites, and geothermal areas sending steam up into the sky. Depending on the route, you may also catch views of the Blue Lagoon and the striking contrast between its bright water and the surrounding volcanic terrain.
You may see
- Recent eruption sites on the Reykjanes Peninsula
- Fresh lava fields and crater formations
- Geothermal areas and steam vents
- The Blue Lagoon and the surrounding volcanic landscape
