From Midgard Base Camp we transport the Mt bikes into the highlands, towards Markarfljót canyon where we park the car and check out on the Markarfljót canyons before the start of the ride. Our ride goes along a double track through the area of Þverárbotnar, with endless small rivers to cross in an magical landscape that’s hard to put into words. We climb hills up and down until we reach the area of Krókur where two beautiful rivers Markarfljót and Hvítmaga meet. We cross Markarfljót on a little “bridge” and bike along the mountain ridge of Sáta down to Torfahlaup and Lake Álftavatn. From there we head onto the Laugavegur trail which takes us through Hvanngil, crossing Bláfjallakvísl river and on towards Hattfell and our car that we left by Markarfljót river.
