REVIEWS
This Eclipse Tour is once in a lifetime event but we want to share with you some of the lovely words our previous guests have said about their experience with Midgard Adventure.
Here you can read what other guests have said about our 4-Day Iceland Adventure Package. We have also included reviews for the winter version of this trip which is similar, except with a focus on the Northern Lights.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – 3-days of wonder – amazing sights, best guide!
“We spent 3+ days with Midgard Adventure touring Thorsmork, south coast, and western areas. Our guide’s passion and knowledge about the sights we visited & the history & culture of Icelend were EXCEPTIONAL! I would come back just to spend time with Addi! We traveled with our elder (80’s) parents in the back-country (super jeep) and felt safe and supported at every step. We couldn’t have asked for ANYTHING to make our trip more enjoyable!” – Alan H
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Midgard was incredible and I highly recommend it”
“We went on a custom, private guided trip for a total of 6 days through the south of Iceland with Midgard. I was with my 9 yr-old son and 80-yr old father. We were guided through all sorts of exciting and beautiful adventures, to volcanoes, black sand beaches, super-jeep rides through rivers, snow-shoeing, glacier walking and ice climbing, and to several waterfalls. I can’t say which was my favorite as each day was special; the views from the car while driving between, or the lunch stops for local food were all part of the ambience. We stayed one night in Thorsmark at the Volcano Huts, went snowshoeing, and it was magical all around. Midgard and our guide Bjarni were professional, courteous, authentic, adventurous, skilled and well trained. Bjarni made it incredibly fun for our three generations and our varied interests on this trip. We met the management and toured the Midgard Base Camp, enjoying a great meal and friendly people. Midgard has invested well in their operations, with a fleet of super jeeps and nice facilities. The variation in the weather means travelers have to be a bit flexible and Midgard uses the “surprise day” well to handle this. Bjarni was passionate about his country and the outdoors, and shared this with us in all our adventures. He listened carefully and responded very well to our needs along the trip, ensuring we all had a great time. We were sad to reach the end of the trip and would highly recommend Midgard and Bjarni. We felt we got special treatment and really experienced Iceland to the fullest.” – Jonathan K
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Amazing guides and experience
“Our family of 4 (two kids ages 13 and 15) had an incredible experience with Midgard Adventure. We had to switch our days around because of passport problems in London, and they were more than accommodating. We had 3 different guides each day and each one of them added a special personal experience to the tours. I highly recommend this company for your Iceland experience.” – Ian and Shannon S
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Four-Day Adventure with Midgard was Fabulous in Every Way!!
“My husband and I went on Midgard’s Four-Day Adventure, staying in a private double room at Midgard Base Camp, and it was wonderful. Our guides, Gulli and Helga, were kind, smart, funny, knowledgeable, and enthusiastically shared their country’s beauty and culture; I did things I didn’t think possible, like ice-walking on a glacier (with Gulli’s help!). There were fabulous meals enroute (from langoustine soup to special home-made tomato soup from a greenhouse) and a warm welcome, lovely room (with a view of the countryside and Icelandic horses) and delicious meals at Base Camp too. Thanks to Anna in the office for helping to arrange this trip for us, and to everyone at Base Camp for their kindness. Our highest recommendation. “- Nancy L
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Amazing Experience
“My son and I did the Northern Lights Tour. This was a rare chance to spend some time together (he’s a busy father and I’m a retired 71 year old). We wanted something a little different that we could both enjoy and Midgard offered a tour that seemed to suit, couple with more than a hint of adventure. We were not disappointed. Midgard is a family run business and clearly values the personal touch. Our four days were varied, interesting and fun. The sightseeing was ably organised by our driver and guide, Bjarni, who kept us both informed and entertained (he is a classically trained singer, as well!). His border collie, Krea (?), added to the enjoyment. The highlights for me were the glacier climb and ice field walk and seeing the northern lights (this was facilitated by one of the owners getting out of bed and driving us to the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night to maximise the view). ‘Basecamp’ is funky, functional and the food is excellent. I can’t recommend them more.” – David M
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Incredible!
“Run, don’t walk, to visit Iceland with Midgard Adventure. I did the 4-day northern lights package in February 2019 and I did it solo. The trip featured some of the most amazing moments I’ve ever experienced in my years of traveling and Midgard made that possible. Midgard’s super jeeps allowed our group to see breathtaking parts of Iceland that one would never be able to access if you just rented a car on your own and drove around. The days we visited Þórsmörk and went glacier walking were highlights. Our guide Thorir did an excellent job of explaining to us what we were seeing and the natural forces that formed Iceland. We were also very well taken care of and felt save the entire time despite some terrible weather.
It is also worth staying at Midgard’s “base camp.” It is sort of a hostel, but it is easily the nicest hostel you’ll ever stay at. I’m in my 40s and used to staying in fancy hotels, but I loved this place. The people are warm and friendly, there’s a bar, the restaurant was surprisingly good for its size (don’t miss the roasted potatoes and red pepper soup), and there was even a folk band concert there one night, where locals packed the place. The best part of base camp is the rooftop hot tub. After a long day of hiking/touring, our group would jump in the hot tub with some drinks and recap our day. It was just magical stuff. I usually try not to travel places twice, but I’m already thinking about when I could visit Iceland again with Midgard.” – Kevin H
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Excellent in all aspects
“Not being confident of driving in icy/snow conditions we chose to spend a little extra and go with a small group tour. We chose Midgard after doing a lot of research and we weren’t disappointed.
We selected the three night/four day northern lights package which included our accommodation and meals (except drinks). The accommodation was provided at their base camp approx. an hour or so out of Reykjavík.
We were assigned a guide for the duration of our stay and Thorir organised all aspects of our tour, driving, the lot. Thor was outstanding in all
aspects. He was accommodating, an experienced driver, personable, and very knowledgeable about the sites and everything in between.
The base camp where we stayed each night was more like a 4 star hotel as opposed to the actual hostel, and the meals were probably the best we’ve had across our travels so far (their crispy potatoes alone are to die for!!). We stayed in a four bed dormitory however guests have the option to pay for an upgrade to private rooms which have their own shower /toilet. The rooms and shared facilities were outstanding – meticulously clean and modern. The eating area also has a great little bar with a happy hour. We were really excited to come back every night just to eat there the food was so good (and included in our package).
The tour itself was amazing, we ventured to climb a glacier, visited beaches with black sand, waterfalls, so many sites I can’t name them all. And best of all we were transported in high quality vehicles at all times, especially the super jeep for the glacier etc was a big hit with much older sons:)
Truly can’t recommend Midgard highly enough, they are worth every cent.” – Annie H
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – The best tour guide company with unparallel service
“We had a blast with them!! Bjork and her sons run this company with utmost care for their clients. Everything went very smoothly with them with we felt like extended family members. About 45 of us went to Iceland on a company outing including our spouses. Each of us got their personalized care on all activities. They kept us safe through proper planning while we were able to enjoy the activities at our own pace.” – Ashraf F
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Amazing Adventure
“Midgard managed to give us all a fantastic 4 day Adventure! No small feat, as our company consisted of my Game-of-Thrones-fan Dad at 70, my white-water rafting guide brother and myself who prefer to run only on man-made paths. We were greeted at Keflavik by Björg, saw the Reykjanes peninsula and enjoyed a nice hike incl bathing in a hot spring. Thorir was our guide at the glacier the next day, making me feel safe as a first-time ice climber and at the same time impressing the guys who have done this kind of climbing several times before. Third day with Ingvard to “Thorsmork” with the big Jeep, crossing rivers, hiking and not catching a wight like John Snow when we too went to Stakkholtsgja Canyon. Last day we again enjoyed the company of Thorir doing the Golden Circle before being dropped off in Reykjavik. Midgard base camp is really nice with good food, comfy beds and great ambiance.
We all give our best recommendation to Midgard!” – Kathinka H
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Our favorite tours of Iceland!
“JUST DO IT! We were with Midgard for 4-days on the Northern Lights package tour. I cannot express how amazing the entire experience was. I am normally a DIY person for trips, but since we were visiting Iceland in the February – I wanted to book with a company so we wouldn’t have to worry about the winter conditions (and thank goodness – we saw cars stuck in snow every day). I am so glad we decided to go with Midgard – the places they took us were unbelievable. Yes we saw all the main attractions Iceland is known for, but we also got to see things that only locals know about – and honestly those were our favorites. Not just because of how gorgeous the site was, but also because we were the only people there, like being on the top of the world. I have been trying to find a way to express how amazing the staff at Midgard is – what I can say is that they all have a tremendous love for Iceland and for what they do – it oozes out of them and is why they are the best folks to travel through Iceland with. We are so glad we signed up for the tour – considering the cost of traveling in Iceland, it actually is also one of the best deals out there. Could not recommend them more highly – if you are considering touring with them, just do it, you won’t regret it.” – Elisia F
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Best Adventure Company
“Wow! Midgard is amazing. From the moment we met at the airport to the final drop off, we were so impressed. The guides were ALL amazing. The stories told were historical and interesting. The sites we went to were by far the most spectacular! I would recommend Midgard to anyone traveling to Iceland and wants fun, adventure and new friends!” – Jen P
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Wonderfull Tour – Don’t miss
“Midgard is a different kind of tour operation- family run, relaxed, personalized, and authentic. Bjarni was an amazing guide and great with our teenagers- not always an easy task. We loved our fellow companions on our trip including Kria (sp/) the border collie, our guide, and all of our adventures, The glacier walk was amazing as were the waterfalls, volcanoes, black sand beaches, subzero hotdog barbeques, and jeep tours, Highly recommend doing the tours and staying at Midgard Base Camp. No need to go anywhere else.” – PamP Denver
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Amazing outdoor adventure!
“In March 2019 we did this marvelous trip. For early spring the weather was nice and the landscape beautiful: surrealistic geothermal pools on Reykjanes and snowcapped mountains above the glaciers. Right in time the driver picked us (family of 2 parents and 3 young-adults from the Netherlands) up at the airport. On the way to Hvolsvóllur we visited the geothermal pools of Krýsuvik. A warm welcome at BaseCamp Midgard. We absolutely prefer a small family-owned and local-based company instead of a big travel agency/company. Another advantage is the location: much closer to the highlights in the south than a hotel in Reykjavik. Breakfast and dinner (and the drinks at the bar) were fine. A cozy athmosphere with a lot of adventurous people (young or somewhat older). The trip to Pórsmörk with the Ford SuperJeep was great. Due to the driving skills of Christian we crossed various rivers to get as far as possible into the Valley of the Thunder God Thor. We explored by foot the surroundings of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano. On the way back to Midgard BaseCamp we visited the Seljálans Falls. The third day we headed to the Sólheimajökull Glacier. A long time ago I climbed various mountains in the Alps, the Andes and the Himalaya but walking on crampons on the glacier and -safely- descending in a crevasse is impressive too. Really worrying is the decline of the glacier in the last decades. A dramatic effect of the global warning. Please show the picture of the sign to D. Trump. The last day –on our way to Reykjavik- we visited the impressive Gullfoss waterfall (thanks to Sigridur Tómasdóttir who ‘saved’ the area), Geysir and the Öxaráfoss waterfall.Summarizing a great trip in just 4 days.” – Wim and Caroline
