DAY 1 - Nice to meet you! (July 14th)
Your driver will meet you in Reykjavík and take you to Midgard Base Camp at Hvolsvöllur. Hvolsvöllur is a small village on the south coast surrounded by volcanoes and beautiful landscape. Arrive at Base Camp in Hvolsvollur and begin preparing for your trekking adventure. An expert guide will help you set up your backpack and get you outfitted with gear and a safety talk. You will have some free time in the afternoon, possible to walk around town, visit the Lava Center expedition, go for a swim in the local swimming pool and explore the farmers market. In the evening you will enjoy an Icelandic dinner at Midgard Restaurant and get to know the new friends you’ll be trekking with. Good night sleep is recommended before the adventure begins.

DAY 2 - Landmannalaugar (July 15th)
We start all the days with a simple but nutritious breakfast where you will make your own lunch and pack trail mix. After breakfast we load up our 4-wheel drive and head straight for the highlands. You will be dropped off in Landmannalaugar. The drive up to Landmannalaugar is 2.5 hours through scenic landscape. There are multiple hiking options in Landmannalaugar, your guide will pick the best route that day based on weather and conditions. After the hike we will get the camp ready, bathe in the natural hot pool, and cook dinner in Landmannalaugar. Overnight camping and dinner in the Landmannalaugar area.
Hiking distance: 6-12 km, very little elevation gain.
DAY 3 - Landmannalaugar (July 16th)
Wake up in the early morning and start the day with nutritious breakfast and lunch prep. Start our hike to Sveinsgil and Grænihryggur. Expect a long day. Grænihryggur Hike or Green Ridge is located in Fjallabak nature reserve. The area is characterized by volcanic landscapes, rhyolite mountains and raw wilderness. The green ridge is a natural phenomenon, famous for its intense emerald green color and unique shape. The hike to it is through pristine landscape with a few glacier river crossings. After the rewarding hike the group can take a dip at the natural hot spring at Landmannalaugar. Followed by dinner and for overnight camping.
Hiking distance: Depending on route selection, this hike can be around 16-20 km. Elevation gain around 1000m
DAY 4 - Álftavatn (July 17th)
Wake up, pack up and have breakfast in Landmannalaugar. On this day our luggage transporter is moving our camp to different parts of the highlands. Our hike is a part of the world famous “Laugavegur trail”. We will be hiking from Landmannalaugar to Álftavatn, passing through some geothermal springs near Hrafntinnusker and hiking the stunning Jökultungur.
After a long day of hiking we will enjoy dinner together Álftavatn, set up the camp and have a good night sleep.
Hiking distance: Around 20 km, elevation gain 1000m
DAY 5 - Krókur (July 18th)
Wake up, and pack up, we are going “off the beaten track”. We will be hiking along Álftavatn lake, to the great canyon of Torfahlaup towards Krókur. We will be passing through mossy fields, massive rivers and colorful mountains. This day will be less strenuous than the day before. In the afternoon we will put up our camp in Krókur. Krókur is a beautiful remote camping ground with no running water. After putting up the camp we will cook dinner and possibly do a short evening hike if there is still some energy left.
Hiking distance: Approx. 12km, elevation gain 500m.
DAY 6 - Emstur (July 19th)
After breakfast and get our lunch ready. We continue our way off-trail from Krokur, over Þverárbotnar to Markarfljótsgljúfur and find our way to the 4th biggest glacier in Iceland called Mýrdalsjökull. Our camping spot is located near the glacier, a place called Emstrur Botnar. Emstrur is a lush established camping ground with huts, where you are likely to meet trekkers from all over the globe. After a nice dinner together we can go on an evening hike up to the stunning Markafljót canyon where you’ll experience one of the most impressive gems in Icelandic landscapes.
Hiking distance: 16km, elevation gain 1
DAY 7 - Þórsmörk (July 20th)
Wake up and pack up, have breakfast and get our lunch ready. On this day we will connect back to the world famous hiking route “Laugavegur”. We will find our way through glacier moraine, desserts of black lava sand, birch forests and finally the wonderful Þorsmörk that will be our home for the next two days. Þorsmörk is known as the home of Thor the thunder god and is Icelanders favorite hiking place.

Hiking distance: 17km, elevation gain 800m
DAY 8 - Hvolsvöllur (July 21st)
Wake up and pack up! Today we have a full day of endless hiking options. We will play according to the weather and energy level. Þórsmörk is a great place for slow travel, pick berries, watch the wildlife, great viewpoints, relax, have a cold tab beer and regain some energy. In the afternoon we will be picked up, transported to Midgard Base Camp again, with
some short adventure stops on the way.
Hiking distance: Flexible.
Enjoy the rooftop hot tub and sauna located at Midgard Base Camp and relax after anincredible week of hiking through Icelandic nature. Savor a homemade meal and party at Midgard, celebrating our accomplishment.
DAY 9 - Departure to Reykjavík (July 22nd)
This will be our last day, for now 🙂 We will have an easy morning and then leave Basecamp after breakfast. We will make stops on the way to Reykjavik, do some shorter hikes and some sightseeing. Plan for this day is flexible. In the late afternoon we will have a drop-off in Reykjavik and all say
goodbye.
